Elizabeth Sterritt is a bilingual family mediator accredited
by the Ontario Association for Family Mediation. OAFM is the
accrediting body for professional mediators that monitors
the ethical standards for its accredited family mediators.
As a mediator and communication specialist, Elizabeth
practices Insight Mediation, a form of mediation developed
at Carleton University in Ottawa, that demands rigorous
standards in mediation skills and communication competence
from its practitioners. An active contributor to the field
of mediation and the collaborative resolution of conflict,
Elizabeth is the immediate past- president of OAFM (Ottawa),
a member of the Board of Directors of Family Mediation
Canada, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Centre
for Conflict Education and Research, at Carleton University.
Divorce literature suggests that the inability to
communicate effectively is a key reason for the breakdown of
family relationships. Elizabeth works with families to track
their communication style with the intention of helping them
to successfully communicate their emotional and financial
needs throughout the process of collaborative separation and
divorce. As a strong advocate for helping families to learn
how to communicate productively after their divorce,
Elizabeth strives to help them chart new ways to communicate
with one another. A member of the Ottawa Family Court roster
of mediators, Elizabeth encourages clients to create
child-centered agreements that promote fairness and the
equitable resolution of their conflict. As an Ontario
Certified Teacher (OCT), Elizabeth brings a wealth of
experience to her work as an accredited neutral
collaborative professional.
