Jean Claude (JC) Desnoyers is the president of SME Business Appraisers Inc, a firm specializing in the determination of the fair market value of small to medium size businesses. Prior to starting his own business in business valuation, JC was the Senior Manager of the Business Valuation Services Division of Welch LLP for nine years and a member of the valuation team of Villeneuve Venne, an accounting firm in Montreal and of Intercap lnc_, a Mergers and Acquisitions firm in Montreal. JC is a Chartered Accountant (1995) as well as a Chartered Business Valuator (2002) and a Certified Mediator (2003). He is fluently bilingual and provides his services in the language of choice of the client.
Prior to joining Welch LLP, JC was a sole practitioner with the firm JC Desnoyers et Associés Inc. where he offered services in business transition, estate planning and succession planning, business valuations (shareholder's dispute, matrimonial dispute, purchases, selling, tax reorganization, etc), organizational development/special mandates, coaching and resolving conflicts between shareholders/partners.
JC is the winner of the 2010 CA Emérite Outaouais Award. This award is given to one CA per year in the Outaouais region, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the profession and to the community.
JC brings relevant solutions to his client’s problems including;
- Preparation of business valuations for; sale/purchase of businesses; litigation between shareholders; matrimonial disputes; tax reorganizations, etc. Over the last 12 years, JC has determined the value of over 600 small to medium size businesses.
- Preparation of available income reports for support payments purposes in matrimonial disputes. Over the last 12 years, JC has determined the available income of over 60 business owners and/or self—employed individuals.
- Preparation of letters on the contingent disposition costs for matrimonial disputes.
- Preparation of valuation reports of income generating assets for; the sale/purchase of the asset; litigation between shareholders; matrimonial disputes; tax reorganizations, etc.
- Preparation of damage quantification reports for litigation purposes.
- Assisting clients in negotiations.
- Testifying in Court. Over the last 12 years, JC has testified in Court as an expert witness in cases of business valuations, available income determination, damage quantification for breach of contract and damage quantification for business interruption claims.
- Assisting lawyers in Settlement Conferences and in Arbitration.
